Texas Hold Em Betting Rules
The rules for betting in Texas hold em are fairly simple, but do differ slightly between limit, no limit and pot limit Texas hold em. The main difference is the amount you may raise. Here is a quick look at the variations.
Limit Texas Hold Em Betting Rules
Every bet in limit Texas hold em is dictated by preset limits. This is best shown by an example. In a 5 /10 limit game, all bets and raises the first two rounds must be 5. In the last two rounds, all bets and raises must be 10. Of course there can be multiple raises each round, but they must each be at the pre-determined betting limit.
No Limit Texas Holdem Betting Rules
The betting rules in no limit Texas hold em are very simple. Each player may bet any amount whenever it is his or her time to act, up to and including the total amount they have on the table. The only restriction is if the player is raising a prior bet, the raise has to at least equal the previous bet. For example, if a player bets 100 and a player wishes to raise, the raise must be at least 100.
Pot Limit Texas Hold Em Betting Rules
Pot limit Texas hold em betting rules are slightly more complicated, but still easy to learn with a little practice. Any player may make a raise up to and including the size of the pot. However, the size of the pot actually includes the amount it would take to call a previous bet. For example, there is 20 in the pot and a player bets 10. If you want to raise the size of the pot, to determine how much you can raise, you must include the 10 to call, so you can actually raise 40 (20 + 10 + 10).
